Reply by antmdm on October 13, 2016 I have the 2017 upgrade version (or rather, had!). Your description is almost identical to my experience last month. I installed the upgrade to 2017 and that night ran the software to make a full copy of my system. In the morning I looked & saw no error messages and a normal looking large backup file. I then rebooted. And Catastrophe! My PC refused to start.

I used the Acronis rescue app on a USB to get in, but the restore failed after about 3 hours. Tried several times (wasted days), even tried restoring parts of the backup, no good, then got it partly working, but then had a continual loop of logging on to windoews and 5 seconds later logging off. Continually going in a loop. After 3 days I gave up & reinstalled everything from zero with Windows 10, all my software & all my data backups (made via a different software thankfully). I am afraid to even install the Acronis software now.

In general, perfomance is constantly being optimized, so updating to the latest build is always recommened for the best perfomance of backup and other opertaions. As a further step I would suggest checking if the issue occurs only while backing up to this particular USB drive. If yes, then the bottleneck is probably the read/write capabilities of the external drive.

The reason being is that OEM's typcially neuter the product so that you can only clone or retore to a disk that matches the type of disk that you purchased.
