Nothing special. Without the USB-to-CAN Interface (Or MPI-II as BRP calls it) and a Dealer Code, the Software is worthless. And a regular dealer code is only valid for half a year or a year. All you can do with BUDS - as long as you have a dealer code - is just do some diagnosis, zero out the TPS, programm keys, clear the maintenance soon message, check and clear error codes, that's it. And I really doubt that this guy can provide a (legal) dealer-code to use BUDS. These Codes are sent by Can Am directly, and are limited to one per dealer as far as I know. I saw ozy reading this thread, but no update.hmm.maybe it did work out and he's hoarding it for himself.:-) Joe Ah sprung. Yeh Joe you did see me reading the thread this morning, but I had to go out. To be honest I'd completely forgotten about it till then. Ok this is what I know so far The disc arrived and loaded up fine. The program that he sent me was only a demo, but it allowed me to view what can be done.
It appears to be the complete BUDS set up for all BRP machines, from PWC's to skis, quads and the Spyder. I could play around with settings in relation to EPS and dash messages. I could view engine data graphs.
It had some error code diagnostic pages and sections where you can program keys etc. Go on to the and you can now down load the demo program.
You order what leads etc you need, based on what machines you want to work on. He will give you all the code keys to be able to use the system. I haven't found out prices or anything so don't ask me how much. At the moment we are planning a trip to the UK so I haven't got the readies to spend anyway. I will probably buy a unit just so I can have it for diagnostic purposes and to reset the maintenance interval. Here is some interesting stuff he sent me about BUDS. Quick history of BUDS & BRP diagnostics (for Seadoo) 1996 DESS keys came out together with the hand held 'Scanner', real basic unit that allowd key programming and timing correction and to enter customer details and last service date into the craft, 1998 & 1999 saw the first service reset features, they were kept close to the dealer network but you COULD buy them if you knew the right people!!! 2000 it all started here, US made MPI-1 introduced that needed laptop, Dealer only and it was LEASED and NOT sold to dealerships-when dealer closed it went back to BRP!!, many advanced features and needed the yearly dealer 'keys' to use it!!, they had to bring this advanced system out with the introduction of the EFI 2 strokes and in 2002 the first 4 stroke/4 tec motors, i worked in a dealership in 2002 and thought this thing was amazing!!!!
MPI-1 was made for BRP only and had inside its own CPU/Processer that had its own program-i took the covers off the dealership one to see what was inside:-), this thing must have been hugely expensive for BRP!!!!! 2008 BUDS programs and hardware now made by european company Kongsberg Inc, there biggest mistake was the MPI-2 interface and they chose a commercially available unit (if you know where to go!!!) so it was only a matter of time before someone would crack the access codes!!, BRP thought they would be smart and protect their system with yearly access codes wich they gave the dealers, it also allowed BRP to restrict what the dealers could work on, for example a seadoo dealer can not work on Can Am even though the interface is the same!!! Download mugen chars. Real nice of BRP!!!well this could not last for ever - just Google 'keygen' LOL This interface is mainly used and set up for the 4 stroke motors, if you are working on the older 2 stroke PWC you need the extra interface that changes the operating protocol back to the old system, with all recent BRP stuff being 4 stroke most just meed the MPI-2 interface and cables to work just fine, some need the DESS post interface to allow key programming but it depends on years and models hope this is interesting!!! Have a look at the attached pic and i will explain what the parts are: item 1 is the universal BRP interface,MPI-2 item 2 is the 2 stroke interface+dess key post for programming 2 & 4 stroke keys, item 3 is the basic DESS post for just the 02-08 4 tec keys - 09 on 4 tec keys program ON the ski - you get this with the basic 4 tec set up.
